Class 10k Cleanroom

What is cleanroom?

A cleanroom is a specially designed controlled environment where the amount of airborne particles-like dust, microbes and chemical vapors- is kept extremely low. It is used in industries where even tiny contamination can affect product quality or safety.

Cleanroom Classification

In semicon facilities, cleanrooms are often described using the older Class 1k to Class 100k system based on FED-STD-209E, with equivalents in ISO 14644-1.

What “Class 10k” means

A Class 10K cleanroom (also called Class 10,000) is a controlled environment used in industries like semiconductors, electronics, and pharmaceuticals to limit airborne contamination—but it’s less strict than higher-grade cleanrooms like Class 1K or Class 100

Key Features of Class 10k

  1. Air Filtration System

    • Uses HEPA filters (99.97% efficient at 0.3 microns)

  2. Airflow Design

    • Typically turbulent airflow (non-unidirectional)
    • May use partial laminar flow in critical zones

  3. Air Changes per Hour (ACH)

    • Around 30 to 60 air changes per hour
    • Helps continuously remove contaminants

  4. Temperature & Humidity Control

    • Temperature: usually 20–24°C
    • Humidity: 40–60% RH

  5. Specialized Protocol

    • Requires proper garments, behaviour, and procedures to maintain cleanliness
