What is an AHU (Air Handling Unit)?

An Air Handling Unit (AHU) is a machine used to condition and circulate air in a building or cleanroom.

Main Functions:

  • Air filtration (removes dust and particles using pre-filters and HEPA filters)
  • Cooling and heating of air
  • Humidity control
  • Air distribution through ducts

Main Components:

  • Filters (pre-filter, medium filter, HEPA)
  • Cooling coil (uses chilled water)
  • Blower / fan
  • Dampers (control fresh and return air)

In Cleanroom Use:

  • Maintains cleanliness class (e.g., Class 10K, 1K)
  • Controls temperature, humidity, and pressure
  • Supplies clean air to FFUs or directly to the room
